Sunday mornings

me and hubby
me and hubby

I'd like to take a moment to thank you for Sunday mornings. For always waking up with a smile on those mornings. For singing duets with me while we get ready for church, even if we sing the same lyrics over and over again. For never getting mad when I'm running late. For asking me if you look nice, to which my answer is very! For sometimes fixing breakfast when I least expect it. For stopping to get bacon biscuits. For the heart to heart talks we sometimes have during the drive to church. For never complaining when I declare a Sunday means breakfast, lunch, and dinner with yummy foods. For opening the doors for me. For browsing through peddler's mall with me. For afternoon adventures. For sometimes letting me nap on Sunday afternoons when you know I really need it. For taking pictures. And mostly, for making every second of my life more loved and full of joy than I could have ever imagined.

Thank you for Sunday mornings.
I love you always.

DIY Painted Ampersand Mirror

This DIY project was so easy and only took me about 15 minutes minus the drying time. I had been eye balling this mirror at my in-laws house because they re-did their bathroom and I was a little suspicious that they didn't want this mirror anymore. As soon as my father-in-law offered it to us I was like "yes! yes! yes!" because I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

ampersand mirror DIY

ampersand mirror DIY

Supplies: mirror, glass cleaner (I used wipes), acrylic paint, a sponge brush, small paintbrush, and painter's tape (optional)

1. Make sure that you clean the mirror really well with glass cleaner and if you happen to use a paper towel, make sure it doesn't leave any little fuzzies behind. 2. Draw the outline for your amerpsand (you could use other symbols, letters, or numbers too) using the acrylic paint and sponge brush. If you want to be precise, make the outline with painters tape and just make sure to place it outside of where you want the edge of your ampersand. I chose to freehand it because I like the imperfect look. 3. After you have your outline, fill it in using the sponge brush. 4. Let it dry for about two hours. 5. Paint on a second coat of paint and as needed, use the small paint brush to touch up the edges (after removing the painter's tape if you used it). 6. Let it dry for another two hours (or overnight).

Now you have a piece of really pretty art that you did yourself. It's also a wall piece to reflect light and make spaces brighter. This DIY project would also be pretty with a framed mirror.

what a peach

Blouse: c/o sugarlips, Skirt: F21, Shoes: borrowed!

I don't know what it is about me and the color peach but I just love it. I'm pretty sure if I was only allowed to wear one color for the rest of my life, this would be it. I'm also pretty sure that an eight year old version of myself would be explaining to me how my shoes don't match my outfit because I don't have a speck of turquoise in my blouse or skirt. To which I would reply, "I know, it's because I'm not a carefree adult ever since I graduated college." Only I just wish that was the case. It turns out life doesn't slow down any after college. But on the bright side, I'm not being tested over the Hunger Games books I am finally reading and I no longer spend my days carrying around heavy baggage of notebooks, textbooks, and my lovely laptop. Just a workin' girl with my heels, my lace, and my peachiness.

closet essentials // pieces you should have multiples of

As I was browsing through my closet the other day looking for something to wear, I started noticing patterns of pieces that I have many of. I started thinking about the value of them and why I own them. It was ironic to think that some of the pieces that I have the most of in that style, are the pieces I have worn the most. I thought I would share a little bit of my epiphany about what types of pieces it's good to have multiples of.

colored shoes

1. Colored shoes. I remember hearing when I was little that it is important for a lady to own the essential shoes such as black and brown, because those go with everything. While I definitely won't condemn a good pair of black or brown shoes, I have to say that today's fashion has opened up to a much broader horizon. Color shoes and pattern shoes are now some of the must haves for your closet because some of the rules of being matchy-matchy have gone out the window. I actually love to wear shoes that are a completely different color than anything in my outfit because it makes them pop. I wear my red shoes and leopard shoes with practically anything, they have become very versatile.

2. Cardigans. Never under estimate the power of a cardigan. I think back in the 90s they used to sell cardigan and tank sets in matching colors or patterns? That is definitely not the case now. Cardigans really allow you to mix up your wardrobe. Wear them with a tank, a tee, a button down, or even over a dress. You can button them up, belt them, wear them open, and I've even seen them worn backwards on a few blogs. Patterned cardigans are great for pattern mixing or wearing them over a graphic print tee, it gives your outfit a creative flare. Plus, let's not forget that they keep you warm when need be.

printed blouses

3. Printed blouses. Some mornings, printed blouses save my life...or at least my job. Whenever I'm running late or feeling in a creative outfit rut, I turn to my trusty blouses with patterns that never go wrong. These blouses have such great patterns that I really don't even have to think about pairing them with anything or about getting creative. I can easily pair them with jeans, skirts, dress pants, and they are so easy. Of course you can always be more creative with them, but they allow you to play hookey a little on your style. And of course, large patterns make you look smaller because there is less pattern per person, and small patterns look really great under solid cardigans, or even for adding a little pattern mixing flare.

I hope this post helps you think about some of the versatility of certain pieces in your closet. I'm usually drawn to colored shoes and I love cardigans of all styles, colors, and patterns. But it works, I don't have to worry about having too many because I can really do so many different things with them. I also don't have to feel guilty about purchasing red shoes and only wearing them a handful of times, I wear them with everything and I'd almost say I've gotten more use out of them than some of the more neutral black or brown shoes I own. And of course, if you don't have any of these pieces in your closet, I would definitely recommend adding them, especially if you are like me, always staring at your closet going "I don't know what to wear." These lovelies are problem solvers.

22 before 23 list

22 before 23 list
22 before 23 list
22 before 23 list

If you remember, I actually wrote this list back in February for my birthday list. Since then, a few things have changed. Like for instance, one goal was to completely unpack our house. Now we have decided that we might be moving out of this rental and actually buying a house. So some goals have changed. I also wanted something a little prettier and that I could post on the wall. The inspiration of actually seeing those goals every day makes a big difference. Oh and I have a new found love for washi tape in all colors and patterns.

awkward & awesome

Bear and my shoes

a w k w a r d
- Driving all over town getting ready for a wedding and making more wrong turns than one person should make in a day.
- Being early to work because I missed the turn to stop and get breakfast, then having someone comment on how they appreciate that I like to be early to things because it's rare for my generation. Uh, well I was actually early on accident.
- Public restrooms that don't play music.
- Wearing a skirt that doesn't allow you to really open your legs enough to slide in your car so you end up with some kind of hop-and-fall maneuver.
- Almost getting taken out by someone's cart at the grocery store.
- Watching a hair tutorial at work with a cluster of girls only to have the boss man walk by and see all of us scatter. Nothing conspicuous going on here, sir.
- Returning things to stores and the fact that it makes me want to be so apologetic, like "I'm so sorry I didn't want to keep your item, you really do have such a lovely store though, it's not the dress, it's me..." etc. (Okay, I don't really voice the apologies out loud, but I totally think them).

a w e s o m e
- Having a day where you are super productive and get so many things crossed off your to do list.
- Making bloggy friends, you gals brighten my day.
- Snapping photos of Bear and the long legs that just seem to grow overnight.
- Those weeks when hubby is in an ice cream mood. That's the best.
- Watching a show about time management on the history channel in which I learned that people that get on the Internet at work are more productive and that some offices do things like have a nerf war in the middle of the day because it gives people a break and increases their productivity afterwards. Unfortunately the place I work is straight out of 1980 where no such things should even be thought of.
- House hunting with the mister.
- Floral clothing in the summer. It just makes me happy.
- Dreaming up an exotic vacation for me the hubs next summer. It will be epic.
