My Word For 2014: Inspire

The start of a new year is always inspiring and refreshing.  It's the chance to clear your slate, start fresh, and make plans for change.  We make long lists to cultivate change in ourselves to go to the gym, eat better, take more pictures, travel more, worry less, and before we know it "life happens" and it's been weeks since we really focused on our list of change.  I can say "we" because I know I am not alone in this.  But friend, let me offer you some encouragement.  Even if you only successfully work at a goal one time, you have achieved more than if you had done nothing at all.  It is not a waste.  I think our entire life is a journey of trying to change ourselves for the better.  We are imperfect humans, we will always have room for improvement.  So please know that whatever change you desire in your life for twenty fourteen, know that even if all you can do is to try, you will not fail.

Today I'm participating in a series called Making 2014 Count with Kelli Murray and six other lovely bloggers.  The idea is to answer any or all of the prompts.  The invitation to link up on any of the seven hosting blogs is open to anyone and the instagram hashtag is #making2014count.

The word I am choosing to live by in 2014 is inspire.

It was a difficult decision because I feel there are so many things I want to see in twenty fourteen.  I started making a list of things I want to do in this fresh new year, but not like a bucket list.  I'm just calling it a life list, a list that will help me to stop being so busy with creating a life that I will actually live it.  I want to find my voice.  To define who I am.  To be more faithful to my God.  To be whatever I need to be, to whoever needs me to be it.  To be stronger - mentally, physically, and emotionally.  To stop letting fear override my decisions.  To see beauty in the humble, everyday moments.  To capture those moments frequently.  To turn this house into a home.  To be the best wife that I can possibly be.  To stop playing it safe. To seek positive change. To really define who I am.

Reflecting on 2013 made me realize the year felt almost static.  There was only one major change in my life at the beginning of the year, and I spent the rest of it just coasting along.  I want 2014 to be a year that is inspired.  A year that continues to inspire later years because it was a time of positive changes.  A year that counts.

To inspire is to fill (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something, especially something creative.  We are inspired constantly by the things we allow to fill our lives, whether we are aware of it or not.  We can be inspired by the people we choose to surround ourselves with.  By the music we listen to.  By the amount of time we allocate to doing things we love.  By the word of God.  By the things we see, hear, read, feel.  We can actually be inspired by our emotions.  This year, I want to be equally more aware of the things I am allowing to inspire myself and of how I am inspiring others.  It's easier to put on a mask of perfection than to be real, but I would rather people be inspired by my real imperfections.  I want to find my voice and use it to inspire other people to live, to change, to seek after dreams, to let go of unhappy things, to find purpose, and to love with a love that is so compassionate it cannot possibly come from any other source than God.
